Show Notes

In this episode of Food, Sex & Life for the Modern Woman Podcast, Abby Jean, in-house esthetician at Annmarie Skin Care, talks to us about adopting a simple, natural, organic skin care routine. One that will prevent and help reverse the visibility of the wrinkles starting to appear on our face. We talk about the major culprit contributing to those wrinkles and how to put an end to that, creating the soft, glowy skin we all long for.

How to Prevent and Reverse Wrinkles

Yes, we asked the burning question and Abby Jean delivered! Unfortunately, wrinkles are inevitable because skin gets dryer, thinner and less elastic as we age. Through sun damage and lifestyle choices like smoking, drinking, partying, stress, genetics, facial expressions (smiling, lifting brows) and worry.

The best way to prevent and reverse the look of wrinkles is to be persistent and consistent with the products we use. It takes at least two weeks to see the results from the products we use, so it’s hard to determine what a product will do for us with a 2 or 3 day sample.

Sun protection is a must. Sun damage is the #1 cause of wrinkles and aging.

Basic Skin Care Regime

Start simple. Don’t overwhelm yourself with too many steps. Use natural, botanic products with no added chemicals.

  1. Basic cleanser
  2. Exfoliate 2-3 times per week
  3. Serum or facial oil / moisturizer
  4. SUN PROTECTION– most important step.

Reapply sun protection throughout the day if you’re in the sun longer than 1 hour. No need to reapply if you’re working indoors.

Advanced Skin Care Regime

  1. Basic cleanser
  2. Exfoliate 2-3 times per week
  3. Toning mist
  4. Serum or facial oil / moisturizer
  5. SUN PROTECTION
  6. Masks 1-3 times per week. There are many types available: moisturizing, hydrating, clay, etc.
  7. Work with an esthetician even if it’s only once very 3 months.
  8. Professional facials
  9. Non-invasive, non-surgical treatments like fruit acid and enzyme peels, micro-dermabrasion, etc.

Tip: Put your products on your counter in the order in which you will use them, so it’s easy and effortless.

Abby Jean talked to us about some of the skin conditions women who are pregnant may encounter and what to do about it, even after child birth.

And what about breakouts in women in their late 20s, 30s and even 40s? Hormones are the culprit in this case. It’s best to work with a naturopathic doctor on thyroid and adrenals to learn more about hormone balance and possibly treat with natural herbs and a guided nutritional diet.
